BJP leaders start elections campaign
BJP leaders start Lok Sabha elections campaign: Senior BJP leader and Gandhinagar MP Lal Krishna Advani will inaugurate the party’s new office in Gandhinagar on April 6. BJP kicked off its campaign for the Lok Sabha elections formally on Friday, which also coincided with the ushering in of the Hindu New Year.
Gujarat Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Narendra Modi on Friday targeted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying “nobody remembered him when he was on holiday for two months”, an apparent reference to Singh’s recovery from a bypass heart surgery.
“I am starting my campaign on the New Year Day of Hindu calendar. This was Modiji’s idea. I wish, like many of his ideas, we could have replicated this one nationally,” he said to a cheering audience.
“I want to remind you that during Narasimha Rao government, you were the finance minister and India’s biggest share market scam, committed by Harshad Mehta, had occurred,” Modi said, adding “now you are Prime Minister and Satyam scam has occurred.”
The BJP is quickly getting into election mode and is set to appoint functionaries to head various cells during the elections and also the people in charge of booths in each constituency. The party has been holding meetings to pacify party workers who are unhappy with the selection of candidates in some seats.
The BJP’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Ms Sushma Swaraj, who has been asked to steer the party’s campaign in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, launched the bid to wrest power at the Centre by address a press conference in Bhopal. She’ll follow it up by addressing a rally in the state capital on Saturday.
