It is time for a change…Go e- way. No more delayed proceedings only speedy justice. To bring about speedy justice, Delhi High court created history on December 15, 2009 where the paperless court heard 33 cases in One day. The High Court launched its first e- court with Justice S. Ravinder Bhat. Instead of the bulky files the judges table was adorned with sleek LCD screen and a touch-screen handbook for the judge. The LCD displayed the list of cases to be heard on the day and the touch screen handbook had the entire case files.

This eco friendly initiative going paperless by High Court will bring about speedy justice. 18 cases were heard within 2 hours. The judge used his special LCD touch screen to make corrections and his digital signature to certify the copy.

According to the sources, this system will be operational in other courts too very soon.
The litigants will have the benefit of submitting their plea in a CD or DVDs.

The need for fast disposal of cases, e-courts will function in a more organized way and anyone would be able to access the case files.

Lawyers too were delighted and gave thumbs up to the concept. A High Court lawyer, Swagat Sharma, who appeared in the e-court said, that now they will be able to get rid of the bulky files and they just need to carry with them USB device or the CD of the case.

With the help of e-courts, court notices, warrants and other documents can be sent via e-mail to the party concerned or the post office concerned from where a service slip will be sent back confirming the receipt.
The court has already digitalized around 5.5 crore papers referring to various cases up to 2007. It is also considering recording the statement of witnesses through video-conferencing to avoid procedural delays.

Litigants would also be able to access e-stamps and online payment of court fee.
