Google vs. Microsoft going may lower PC prices
It may happen that due to the fierce competition between Google and Microsoft, personal computers prices get lower down especially in this time when the prices are already being hiked due to inexpensive netbooks. Google announced that it will proffer Chrome OS for free, after its launch in the second half of year 2010. This statement o Google can really lead Microsoft in a kind of price war.
One of the Microsoft’s analysts has said, it will not take Google challenge lightly and it’s new Windows version i.e. windows 7 will be available by this October. Though, Windows is one of the most prevailing OS, installed in 90% of the world personal computers. More likely Microsoft’s planning is to beat Google on price. After all, the competition is between world’s largest two brands.
Google adds by saying that Chrome OS is based on the open source Linux code, designed especially for all PC’s but will unveil on netbooks. In its first move, Google has targeted the main stripped down, web centric netbooks, one of the sections showing growth in PC market. Now, as the prices of nearly all components of PC have been lowering, OS is the only thing which is not coming down at all. This is going to put pressure on Microsoft.
It has not been clear till yet, around how much Microsoft will charge PC brands for windows, but according to analysts, it will be around in between $20 to $40 for older XP system and at least $150 for the present Vista system.
Google Chrome OS will work on any architecture. Microsoft didn’t give any comments on Google’s move. Now, Microsoft is quite limited as what they do for one, they have to do for everyone. On the other hand, netbooks which are shipping with Windows XP have actually doing very well as compared to Linux; even though they are more expensive and costly.
