A Yule log is a big wooden log which is burned in the hearth (fireplace) as a part of traditional Christmas festivities. It can be a part of the Winter Solstice festival or the Twelve Days of Christmas, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or Twelfth Night.
Originally Yule log was an entire tree, which was chosen with utmost care and took into the home with rituals with the purpose being to provide maximum warmth and endurance.
