Hiking the SMS tariff during Diwali amounts to discrimination: VHP
Sending diwali wishes through SMS is the easiest and the most popular way of greeting your loved ones. This Diwali some smart service providers in Gujrat have announced hike in SMS tariff during the day Diwali celebration i.e. 16th October and 17th October. Much to the surprise of all, the subscribers has announced the rates of sending SMS was double than the regular.
To teach a lesson to these canny service providers the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has sent legal notices to all cell phone service providers over their policy of hiking SMS rates during Diwali.
SMS has suddenly outraged the religious controversy and legal action in Gujrat. The legal notices, sent on behalf of VHP international general secretary Pravin Togadia, said that doubling of SMS rates during Diwali amounts to discrimination. The legal notices also mention that the SMS charges were not hiked during other religions festivals.
The VHP has also informed Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and requested via letter to intervene in the matter and stop cell phone service providers from charging extra during Diwali.
