Coca-Cola worldwide sales grew 3 percent for the year 2009 contributed mainly by India and China said the company in its latest result announcement on Tuesday. Its annual and fourth quarter results reported a profit of $6.82 billion up 17 percent from $5.81 billion in 2008.
Coca-Cola said India and China contributed to its increased unit volume sales by 3 percent in the whole year and nearly five percent in the fourth-quarter. Revenue-wise, however, it reported sales of $31 billion which was almost a billion dollars down from $31.94 in 2008
Fourth quarter revenue increased to $7.51 billion from $7.13 billion year on year which contributed largely to improved yearly numbers. The fourth quarter also saw its earnings per share at 66 cents, up nearly 55 percent from 43 cents a year ago and its unit sales increasing 29 percent in China and 20 percent in India. Other developing markets in South America accounted for 8 percent growth in unit sales.
Its flagship brand Coca-Cola volume grew a 4 percent in the quarter across global markets. However, in its traditional market in North America, volume growth was down 1 percent.
According to the chairman and CEO, Muhtar Kent, the year ended well for the company with global volume, revenue growth, improved productivity and cash flow.
