China and India are emerging as the two super-phone markets. Analysts like Gartner (market research firm) and authoritative research firm iSuppli has already clarified the growth in India’s mobile phone users by the year 2010. The Times of India recently reported that this will grow to 500 million.
In the year 2006 India’s telecoms regulator TRAI provided statistical report that showed that in 2006 India’s new mobile phone users increased 74 million mobile phone users rose to 149.5 million, second only to China, the United States and Russia. The mobile phone manufacturers increasingly rely on the pioneering development in emerging markets such as China, India, Brazil, Russia, these emerging markets, driving the global handset market shipments and showing rapid growth in mobile sales.
Phone users in India in 2010 is expected to reach 500 million, currently India was at 488.40 million (wireless) subscribers at the end of October 2009 and the current projections are calculated guesses taking into account the rate of growth observed for the past few months
That means by early next year India mobile phone users will grow rapidly and India will reach the mark of 500 million. It is understood that India’s population of over 1.09 billion (in 2005), a vast territory, and mobile phones are considered as easy to use, which has prompted the mobile phone market to grow rapidly.
Till date the data shows that total number of telephone connections (including fixed line) has already crossed a staggering 550 million in the country.
