Indians are using Twitter for getting news: PluGGd.in
Twitter has achieved tremendous growth in the last few months and a poll conducted by pluGGd.in (http://www.pluggd.in), India’s leading technology site revealed the ways Indians are using Twitter for.
Twitter is popular as a micro blogging site but in India people log on to it for reading updated news.www.pluGGd.in is a survey site which has revealed that near about 16% Indians log on to twitter for getting updated and real time news.
According to the survey conducted by pluGGd.in near about 11% Indians are on twitter for social networking and 10% are on twitter in search of something or research purposes.
Twitter was established in the year 2006 by Jack Dorse This site gained popularity in India during 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack. At that time the victims of that attacks and eyewitnesses has sent 80 tweets every 5 secs. The tweets helped a lot in creating the list of died people and those who were injured in the attack.
The analytics also give credit for its immense popularity to central Union minister Mr.Shashi Tharoor on his controversial tweet “cattle class” and then apologizing
for that. Mr.Shashi Tharoor is an active member of twitter and having near about 3 Lakh followers on the twitter.The site is giving tough completion to Facebook and Google’s Orkut.
On face book near about 80 Lakh people are connected on the other hand 16 million people are connected through Orkut and. In India 14 lakh people are joined together on twitter platform which comes at third place followed by Germany and America.
“Twitter popularity in India is primarily driven by the buzz created by media and it’s interesting to note that majority of Twitter usage is work related/research purpose giving the tool a wider meaning than microblogging. Moreover, Twitter is still being experimented for different reasons (global phenomena) and expect more use cases when it reaches the common mass, via sms integration” – said Ashish Sinha, Chief Editor of pluGGd.in.
