Indian cellular Association has appealed the government, traders and end users to keep in mind that legitimate IMEI number is requisite for every mobile. Government must ban the handsets which are without UID numbers.
According to ICA from December 1st the phone selling or availing services without IMEI number or cloned numbers posed a serious threat to national security as they could not be tracked.
The Department of Telecom has also issued a directive of banning all the mobile phones that do not have any legitimate International Mobile Equipment Identify (IMEI) number.
Pankaj Mohindroo, National President of ICA said that, “India’s growth in the telecom sector has shown a remarkable increase. It has one of the fastest growing markets registering sales of over 1 Crore and an average of 10 million connections every month.”
“At this pace, it is equally important to promote responsible growth and address key issues emanating from the proliferation of non-international mobile equipment identity, IMEI handsets,” he added.
Restricting the proliferation of unbranded phone devices, without IMEI number, it is necessary that the customers must be attentive and buy wisely. The end users must go for original IMEI numbers handsets.
