Hollywood actress and Oscar winner Julia Roberts, who has converted to Hinduism very recently, says that according to her, Diwali should be celebrated by the people of the entire world as a mark of goodwill. She also said that Christmas and Diwali are similar to each other because both celebrate the victory of good over evil and are all about good spirits and lights.

Diwali which is a Hindu festival is not the sole property of Hinduism itself as far as Julia is concerned. It is universal in nature as it symbolizes the values of peace, prosperity, self confidence and humanity. She said,” When I think of Diwali, I can never imagine a world broken into fragments by narrow feelings of communalism and religion which does not care for human benevolence.”

The multidimensional aspect of Hinduism is what had attracted Roberts to it. According to her, the spirituality of Hinduism is not restricted to religion alone. On being asked whether she would like to visit India again, she said that she would return to the country again and again.

According to Rajan Zed who is the President of Universal society of Hinduism and an eminent Hindu statesman; Hinduism has an appeal at the universal level which is extremely practical. It has an answer to every question.

He suggested that Roberts reach “the state of permanent joy” with the assistance of the variety of techniques which are mentioned in the Hindu scriptures.
