RCom Introduces 1 paisa per SMS plan for monthly rental of Rs 11 – Yes this is true, RCom (Reliance Communications) i.e. India’s second biggest mobile operator has introduced 1 paisa per SMS plan, available to its users for a monthly rental of just Rs. 11.
As per the sources, RCom has also unveiled unlimited SMS scheme costing in just Rs. 25 per month, mainly usable for non commercial purposes. The management of Reliance Communications has been expecting that while using this scheme, the company would capture high market share for heavy users of SMS services. Yet now, to the company, SMS revenues lead around 3.5-4% of its total revenues.
The company declared that the cutting down of SMS rates would help the company to achieve higher share in the industries. After the slashing SMS charges, the company came down 1.18% to Rs. 166.90 at 15:10 IST, farther heating up an ongoing price war in the telecom market.
In the mean time, BSE Sensex was down by 245.61 points, 1.46% to 16,609.32. In the last 2 weeks, as compared to an average volume of 18.32 lakh shares, on BSE 14.89 lakh shares were traded in the counter. The stock has recorded a high of Rs. 168.30 and low of Rs. 163. On dated 11 June 2009, the stock had a hit of 52 week high of Rs. 359 and on dated 9 March 2009, the stock had hit a 52 week low of Rs. 131.35.
Taking the tariff war to the data front from voice calls, similar to Reliance Communications, other operators are likely to follow the suit in the same way. In the afternoon today, RCom stocks were down by 1.54% at Rs. 166.30.
