RCOM mulls joining hands with Bharti Airtel & Vodafone Essar – India’s second largest mobile company, RCOM (Reliance communications) has been thinking seriously and determining whether it should join hands with its competitors Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar or not while proffering ‘per second billing” tariff option to its customers.
Recently in last month, RCOM has joined the ongoing mobile tariff war by declaring its 50 paisa per minute plan, also named as “Simply reliance”. According to the expert analysts of telecom sector, such tariff plans reward profitability in the time where the average revenue per user is already among the lowest.
As per one of the financial analyst tracking telecom firm, “Per second billing is the most you can break down the call rates – there’s nothing much you can do beyond that”. The person urged anonymity as he is not authenticated to speak to the media.
In the second quarter ended on September 30, RCOM, which has approx. 84.11 million mobile subscribers, accounted a 51% fall in its net profit to Rs 740 crore. In a conference call, while dealing with all financial investors, RCOM executives stated that the company is open to “per second billing” but would also concentrate on its existing plans offerings.
“Per second billing is one of the other options that RCOM team has evaluated internally and all other options are also open as well, as per Reliance ADA group MD Satish Seth.
He also added, “Simply Reliance plan is the best when compared to the per second tariff plans offered by rivals”. As per the Simply Reliance plan, it grants subscribers to make a call at 50 paisa per minute from any Reliance phone to any phone in India, all across either CDMA, GSM, pre paid or post paid plans and fixed line phones. This rate will be applicable to all roaming calls, at any hour of the day.
