As the advent of 2010 October the fever of Commonwealth Games will shoot up among people. Europe’s largest outside broadcast (OB) and uplink supplier; SIS Live (Satellite Information Service) will cover the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi. The rights for production and coverage facilities and services of the Commonwealth Games has been awarded to SIS Live by Public broadcaster Doordarshan
The British company will use High Definition TV (HD TV) for the first time in the history of Commonwealth Games to cover the prestigious games with better image resolution.
After an exhaustive tender process, Prasar Bharati, has tied up with SIS Live, according to the Director General, Doordarshan, Aruna Sharma. SIS Live will provide all production facilities and personnel to cover 17 different sports across 12 venues in Delhi including grand opening and closing ceremonies.
SIS Live provided coverage of the Queen’s Baton Relay which started from Buckingham Palace, London, before making a 340-day, 190,000-kilometre journey across all the Commonwealth countries, ending in New Delhi at the start of the Games.
SIS Live is supplying over 1,000 highly-skilled technical and production staff at the 12 venues. It is also supplying the technical infrastructure to cover the Games, SIS LIVE is providing over 12000 extremely-competent technical and production staff at the 12 venues aided by 300 DD staff. Training for the DD staff will be started soon in New Delhi by foreign technicians.
DD will arrange Hindi and other regional languages commentators for the domestic viewers, whereas, SIS Live will provide foreign commentators for the Commonwealth Games.
SIS Live, which integrates the former BBC Outside Broadcast division, has over 70 years experience of covering major sporting vents, and currently provides the facilities and personnel to cover everything from Formula One to Wimbledon to the London arathon. (ANI)
Doordarshan, the host broadcaster, presented its production and coverage readiness plan for the Commonwealth Games at the just concluded World Broadcasting Meet held in New Delhi from October 3 to 14, 2009 for the Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) from various Commonwealth nations.
To generate awareness for the Commonwealth Games, Prasar Bharti has made detailed and comprehensive publicity plans on TV and Radio.
Mr. Sharma also revealed that Pre-Game programming components highlighting a range of activities from next month will be put on Doordarshan.
World Broadcaster Meet on Commonwealth Games in the capital between October 26 and 28 was held by Prasar Bharti.
