A car when employs new technologies to break grounds, it is a car….says an ad of Volkswagen. Volkswagen, Europe’s strongest automotive brand has announced it’s Up! Lite concept car at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. Volkswagen Up! Lite, which they claim is the world’s most fuel efficient four-seater car. It runs on a mix between 2-cylinder 0.8-litre TDI engine that outputs 51hp and an electric motor that works drawing its energy from a lithium-ion battery, putting out 14 hp more, the new Volkswagen Up! Lite Concept is competent of doing 100km with only 2.44 liters of fuel. On top of being green, the Up! Lite vehicle also manages to accomplish a maximum speed of 160km/h and goes nothing to 100km/h in only 12.5 seconds — the lightweight aluminum, carbon fiber and steel body, helps it out, as well.

The car is competently named the Up! Lite as it is built from a blend of lightweight materials such as aluminum, light weight steel, carbon fibre and tips the scales at just 1530 pounds. It has no sharp edges and looks like built from a single molded unit.

The rear LED lights and the rear fog lights are incorporated in the bumper while the interior mirror and side mirrors are substituted by camera’s, a novel styling by VW.

On the exterior the concept car gets the eye with its 18″ wheels and LED daytime running lights, whilst on the inside there’s a 5.7-inch touch screen, an MP3 player, Internet connection and a telephone.

Other features of VW include:

“The radiator grille that closes and opens automatically depending on the cooling needs of the engine (”active thermal management”); and instead of a classic rearview mirror, three cameras perform this job better and more aerodynamically; when the car is parked in the summer, hot air is vented to outside the vehicle (”passive park ventilation”); an “optimized Easy-Entry feature” enables extremely comfortable entry and exit from the rear seating area; longitudinal adjustments to the driver and front passenger seats automatically adjusts seat height as well; when folding the rear bench seat, the seatback is easily unlatched by folding the rear head restraints forward (”Easy Switch”); many vehicle features (including ventilation, Internet, telephone, MP3, video, telephone, trip computer, radio) are controlled centrally via an intuitive touchscreen with hand movement sensors,” as per Press Release.

“The ideal car for the daily commute to work,” The Up! Lite was designed to be a multifaceted vehicle that makes trips into the city, commutes to work and naturally long trips as well considerably less expensive and more eco-friendly. “No other car is more sustainable”.

What more one can ask for?
